Some unidentified armed men attacked the CEO of Makafui & Sons lotto company Ltd at Ayitikofe, a community near Akatsi in the Volta Region leaving one dead and several others severely injured.
The unfortunate incidence occurred at around 7:40pm on Monday night when the masked gunmen stormed the residence of Mr. Makafui Atsu Kumordzie.
According to some victims who are staffs of the comapny; they came back from the days activities to close accounts for the night when they heard bangs on the gate, thinking it was some of their colleagues who are also back from duty, but realised it was robbers after hearing gunshots. Shooting sporadically; the gunmen numbering about 8 made their way into the house, shot one of the drivers who was standing by the gate and then pounced on them with guns and other arms asking for the whereabout of their Boss and where they keep their money which they declined knowledge of. The gunmen rounded all the available staff up, beat them to the pulp with gunheards and other arms.
Some residents in the neighbourhood had to run for their lives due to the sporadic shooting. A resident by name; Bato, lamented how he managed to call the Akatsi Police Command immediately the robbery started but it took the police a longer period to arrive at the scene after about an hour long robbery.
“everyone was frightened over the way the robbers were shooting…some of have to hide in some nearby bushes before making calls for rescue” Bato said.
Though the police are yet to make an official response and commence an investigation, staff claimed the robbers made away with a very huge sum of money.
One staff, a cook, is currently receiving treatment at the Akatsi Municipality hospital with 3 in a critical condition at Ho teaching hospital.
The assemblymember for the area; Mr. Jerry Etsey Agbo lamented about the unfortunate incidence, according to him; the deceased Mr. Dotse Dogbatey, before his demise was the assistant chief driver of Makafui Atsu Kumordzie, the CEO of the company.
Though residents are still wailing in shock, calm has been restored to the area after the police stayed and maintained peace in the community till Tuesday morning.
The Regional Crime officers are expected in the municipal later in the day to assist the district commad commence investigations.
This is the second robbery attack on the business man, the first happened in May, 2021 with some arrest made so far.
The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Martin K. Nyahe accompanied by the Municipal Police Commander Supt. Isaac Baah visited the crime scene and later the victims at the Hospital on Tuesday morning to ascertain first hand information and to sympathize with them.
